Fleetwood Carnival
It’s always on the third Saturday in June, this way it doesn’t clash with other Fylde Coast Galas. Here’s what happens at the Carnival in a fantastic full day of community fun:
- Crowning of Fleetwood Carnival Queen in Marine Gardens.
- Judging inside the Marine Hall for Fancy Dress entries
- Judging on the promenade for Floats
- The BIG Fleetwood Carnival Parade around the streets of Fleetwood
- Fun Day in Marine Gardens
Fleetwood Carnival is a day for the community
Make a date to go along and enjoy the parade and fun day in the Marine Gardens.
- Crowning of Fleetwood Carnival Queen takes place at 11am.
- Judging of Floats takes place on the Esplanade at 12 noon
- Fancy Dress judging takes place in the Marine Hall, also at 12 noon.
- BIG Fleetwood Carnival Parade around the streets of Fleetwood commences at 1pm prompt.
- When the parade returns to the Marine Gardens at approximately 2pm, enjoy a fun, family afternoon.
Come and join in the Fancy Dress! Mums and dads dress up your kiddies bikes and prams or dress up in any fancy dress costume. Wheelchairs are also welcome to join us, the more the merrier. Come and Join the Big Parade.
Please pick up an official collecting tin from the Marine Hall, organisations cannot collect for their own funds.
In the lovely gardens you can enjoy fun, games and entertainment for all the family. Hopefully the sun will shine and everyone will enjoy celebrating Fleetwood and the tradition of Fleetwood Carnival with the lovely children of the town.
- If you’d like a stall (not food) or you would like your organisation/group to entertain in the Marine Gardens, please contact cheryl.walkington@btinternet.com
Message from the Organisers
“I wish to extend you a very warm invite and welcome to this years Fleetwood Carnival. We are looking forward to seeing everybody lining the streets to watch our carnival parade and joining us later at our Fun Day outside the Marine Hall.
“I feel that the Carnival brings the entire town together to share an enjoyable day. Most of Fleetwood schools will be joining us again and we are searching all the time to get more Youth Organisations involved. If you cannot organise a float, please come along and enter the Fancy Dress. (Please note that if you’re on a float, the same characters cannot enter the Fancy Dress section also).
“Hopefully we can have a lovely Carnival and the sun will shine for us all this year. Help us to make it the best turnout ever, by entering the ‘Fancy Dress’, entering a ‘Float’ or lining the parade route. You could also decorate a pram or bike. All the money collected stays in Fleetwood and we donate to local Schools and organisations.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our fabulous committee members, friends and family for all their hard work and commitment to making Fleetwood Carnival a great success. Thank you to all our judges and all our supporters as your continued help is much appreciated.”
Cheryl Walkington, Fleetwood Carnival and Welfare Chairman
Can you help out?
The committee, children and families involved work hard, often under difficult circumstances, to stage the Carnival parade and Fun Day each year. Hopefully this year will be another success. In order to keep the traditional Carnival alive, more committed and dedicated new team members are needed. If anyone is interested in joining our committee or would like to discuss what is involved, please contact Cheryl.

In 2022 the team introduced a new annual Ann Hanvey Award to be awarded to any parade entry that we feel Ann would have appreciated. This is intended to reflect the committee’s sincere thanks to Ann and honour her memory. It’s fair to say that Fleetwood would have lost the traditional and historic Fleetwood Carnival without Ann’s total dedication over the last 26 years. I’m sure that Fleetwood people will always associate the Carnival with Ann, which is lovely and so richly deserved.

Fleetwood Carnival needs YOU!!
It’s said every year, and this year is no exception. If you want to see Fleetwood Carnival continue, more committee members are needed. Could you help to make it happen? Please get in touch with the organisers.
NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED
The Committee is always in need of more new members. A really good, dedicated Retinue Team is in place. But new members are needed to help with organising and staging this big event. As well as the Retinue Team, we also have other long standing members who work hard staging the Carnival each year.
- Help to oversee the Fun Day in the Marine Gardens.
- There are Road Closures to deal with and booking bands.
- Getting Schools and Youth Organisations interested in entering Floats and the Fancy Dress sections.
This event depends on you
Without more help future Carnivals may well be cancelled. Come on folks, help out. We keep saying this, but new members also bring new ideas which we need. And more hands make less hard work for all concerned.
If you want this traditional annual event to carry on, please come forward and help. We only meet once a month, perhaps a little more nearer to the time. Everyone loves a community event, but they only happen when members of the community help to organise them.

There are 33 hotels in Fleetwood.
Really?
Unfortunately I cannot be there for the Fleetwood Carnival but if I could there would be a problem of where to stay. Fleetwood appears to be excluded from the list of accommodation. Has Fleetwood “closed” to staying visitors?
No it’s not closed at all. There is very little choice of accommodation though in Fleetwood. There are a few small hotels along The Esplanade and the North Euston and that’s about it.
